I have received at least 8 email responses to me applying for admin jobs in the Chicago area. I've received $3,000 in money orders, $3,000 in checks. It was usually for exec asst jobs where I'd be paid $500 and forward the balance to Alice in Wonderland (kidding about the name) in New York or Minnesota or bum @#$% Egypt. The point is, these are totally scams. I've started replying to them, calling them "scum of the earth" lowlife creeps that prey on desperate unemployed people, and have also turned over a lot of this stuff to the cops. Once you put a check through your bank, whether it's legit or not, you're responsible for the whole amount. The bank (or currency exchange) will cash it, find out 2 weeks later that it's phony and then you're on the hook for the whole amount. Here's what the new one looks like:
