Has anyone heard of Elaine R. Tinker??  Top

  • Hey guys!
I'm from Minnesota and received an e-mail from Elaine R. Tinker who claims who be an HR Administrator for Hamre, Schumann, Mueller, & Larson P.C., a law firm located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I looked the law firm up and even found some news articles about the lawyers who work for the firm and found some of the employees on LinkedIn. Now I just want to make sure Elaine is for real, she could be just using a legitimate company's name to scam people. She wants to do a phone interview on Friday, just to see who they want to invite for a in-person interview. Is this normal for a company to do? I wouldn't know since I've been working for fast-food and retail places my whole work career (I'm only 22, don't judge! lol) If anyone knows anything, that would be awesome!!
  • I say look up that name..(google is your friend)...There is a profile on Linkedln with her name and that law firm...She is the HR department..But that could be a setup.....I had something on CR once that was an unusual item...I got a mail from someone claiming to be from one of the pawn store reality shows...Hardcore Pawn......Did some investigation into that and found that it was actually a real deal that was going on.....
    Some companies will do that...
  • I googled the company and her as well. I only found news articles and some of the lawyers on LinkedIn, I also have a profile on LinkedIn. I tried to google her name but did not find anything. I also found their website and I found her name under the staff so I think it's a real deal. Unless someone would go through that much trouble to scam people...I hope not. When other companies tried to scam me, I found them right away on Flakelist or Ripped off but not so with this company.
  • It's not unusual for a company to contact you via email to set up a phone interview. I've been contacted 3 times, 2 were legit. Like you I googled the company, viewed the website and found the name, phone and email of the HR person then matched it up with the email address/contact info in the email.

The HR person got my contact email through one of the job boards. In the initial contact message they supplied a job description and the position was one had had experinece in. Before I replied, I also viewed the full header info and googled the IP address.

Can't hurt to do the phone interview. Of they ask you for a credit check, ss #, etc., it's a scam - hang up.
  • Thank you guys so much! It has really helped me. I had the phone interview today and it was legit! No asking for a credit check, ss# or any of that shady stuff lol. Then again I applied for the job through a career website for my school and not Craig's List! I don't think I want to go through CL at all anymore....almost every job I have come across has been a scam. Not trying to hate on people who like to use CL though! But seriously, I am SO GRATEFUL for FlakeList!!! Whoever set this site up, thank you!!!! icon_biggrin
  • Hasho: Hope they call you in for an interview and you get the job. icon_biggrin You are right about CL, most jobs are scams. icon_frown CL should not be used as the primary source for looking for a job.
