Does anyone know what job sites are legit? There are so many out there!  Top

  • I have been looking for work for over a year. In real estate you are not able to collect unemployment, so the rush is on to find work. There are so many job sites out there, which are legit and which are not. Has anyone had much luck with a specific site? I am still trying to figure that one out. I have had several legit job interview off CL, local to me due to the high gas prices. Nothing yet, seems I am over qualified! Duh! icon_rolleyes Why do they think I applied...I need work, that's why.
  • My personal experience with job sites hasn't been very good. Careerbuilder has nothing but scams, sales jobs or from employment agencies. I never had any luck with monster. CL, I've gotten a few hits when I posted my resume, but usually I'm over qualified or the salary they are offering I can't live on. I've stopped applying for jobs on CL, since almost all responses back were scams.

Networking I've found works best. Now a days it's not what you know, but who you know. Good luck to you, I'm in the same boat as you regarding real estate.
  • Thanks for the info, I will try that site, not much luck with monster either, etc.
    Good luck to you too.
  • Do you have a specific site for them?
  • I am assuming that you don't want to be involved in the sale or rental aspect of the business. Maybe you should consentrate your search to the administration part of the industry (ex. marketing assistant or broker's assistant).

I have gone directly to the company website, copied email address of agents in my area, and marketed myself as a part-time freelance marketing assistant. I've created a website (freewebs.com) showing samples of my work and a brief summary of my experience. Also post a resume (marketing asst.) on monster, careerbuilder, CL - get your name out there and be persistant.

I've gotten a few jobs posting ads, creating flyers and doing bulk mail projects for agents. I charge an hourly fee. Getting established is the hard part, especially if the market isn't strong in your area. Target the big corporations and agents, (Prudential, Coldwell Banker, etc) that have a lot of listings. Contact agents you know and ask if they need any marketing. Also contact the branch managers.

In this ecconomy you have to be resourceful. Any skills you have acquired in the real estate industry, market. Don't wait for them to come to you, go to them.
  • Thanks so much, not sure I want to stay in real estate, sent license back to the state. I could not afford all those fees they are charging now. Tee'd me off at that. I looking for a office job. 9-5 do what I have to do and then go home. I have sent resumes out but for every job there are hundreds. I need steady work for at least 6 months. I keep hoping, have a great weekend.
  • You're welcome. I agree, real estate is costly. I joined a referral network just to keep my license active.
