I recently received two identical scam emails when I responded to two CL ads, one from Alexander Rahil (a familiar name to flakelist regulars), the other from Danny Smith. You can see the original email at http://flakelist.org/page/viewpub/tid/1/pid/6283 Being in a generous mood, I decided to answer both:
Dear Alexander,
I am pleased to hear that you are a successful self-employed importer. I myself was self-employed in the distribution of certain agricultural products, but I was forced out of business as the result of a misunderstanding with the government.
First Name : Richard
Last Name : Mason
Full Street Address(Not PO BOX): XXX XXXXX XXX
City, State, Zip Code : Pittsburgh, PA 15XXX
Cell Phone Number: unavailable
Home Phone Number: unavailable
Current Occupation : between positions
Email Address : XXXXXXX@yahoo.com
I apologize for the lack of telephone contact; unfortunately, I will be unable to give out my telephone information until I have cleared up certain difficulties with the local police. I check my email at least twice a day, so that should be sufficient for our purposes.
Thank you for your consideration.
Richard Mason
Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for your response. My contact information is as follows: James Billington, X XXXXX XX, XXXXX, RI 02XXX. I am currently without a home phone or cell phone, but my email address is XXXXXXX@yahoo.com, and I check in at least five times a day. I am not currently employed, but that is through no fault of my own, and is entirely due to the machinations of my ex-wives. Any information you receive from them concerning me is wholly without merit.
Your servant,
James Billington
I haven't heard back (yet) from Alexander Rahil, but I received the following response from Danny Smith this morning:
Dear James Billington,
I wish to congratulate you on the new job,i had to verify all the information you provided. I hope to have your 100 % loyalty and co-operation.Your quick response to e-mails and effectiveness will be required and you will be receiving your first assignment imminently. You will be emailed with detailed instructions, I have been checking my files and what i would want you to do for me next is to run some errands out to some foster care home, a Weekly obligation for me. Ah, here we go. "Richard" has at last heard from "Alexander" (who carelessly misspelled his last name Raihl):

Oh look, Richard Mason was given the exact same Representative Number as James Billington. Gosh, Alex just seems to be in a careless state of mind today!

Richard Mason got his check today from Alexander, Priority Mail ($4.90), with the return address David Burcher, 5607 Berry Creek Cir, Raleigh, NC 27613-1468. Alex followed up with an email:
PAYMENT NOTIFICATION
Hello Richard,
Your first assignment payment has been sent out and it will get delivered to you by tomorrow.
I will await your prompt response once you receive the email.
Thanks
Mr Rahil
And my response:
Thank you, Mr. Rahil. I'll let you know as soon as the check arrives.
Richard Mason
I think I'll give it until Monday, then email him to let him know the check hasn't arrived yet. I wonder if I can get him to mail me another one.

A quick look at the USPS tracking site shows that Danny's check was mailed out from Puyallup, WA on the 13th and delivered to my old house at Newport, RI yesterday. I'm guessing that's another $4.90. I think I'll give him till Tuesday and tell him the dog ate it. Bad girl! Bad Klea!

I just received identical emails from Alex and Danny:
Good Morning,
We will await the details of the first assignment once assignment Because the orphanage need to the funds for the necessary items.
Your first salary will be paid after completing your first task.
Thanks
Followed by the USPS tracking data showing the packages have been delivered. I've sent Alex the following response:
Dear Mr. Rahil,
Despite the USPS tracking data showing the package was delivered, I still haven't received your package. I'm afraid it may have been stolen. You'd better put a stop-payment on that check and send me a replacement.
Richard Mason
And Danny gets one too:
Dear Mr. Smith,
Unfortunately, I spilled some spaghetti sauce on your check, and while I was busy answering the phone, my dog ate it. I'm terribly sorry about this! Could you please send me a replacement check?
Best wishes,
James Billington

My reply to Alex:
Dear Mr. Rahil,
Unfortunately, as I explained earlier, I am not permitted to give out my telephone information due to an unfortunate incident involving the local police. Your package has still not arrived. I hope this won't lead to any undue hardship at the orphanage. What should I do?
Richard Mason
Still no response from Danny Smith.
