I posted an ad and received a response from this person saying that he would be interested and would send me payment asap. Then 2 days later he emailed again saying that he was out of town and there had been a mistake in the payment; his assistant had over paid me and could we work something out to return the diffrence. I said I would be happy to return the check as is but he became insistant that I cash it and Western Union him the money. I reluctantly agreed and a few days later I got the check in the mail. He demanded that I not hesitate and take the check to the bank imediatly and send him the money and the pick up number because he had over due bills; my bank was closed when I got the check however so instead I did some checking. I called the bank and was assured they were real, then in trying to make sure it was a valid check and waiting for the originating branch to be brought on the line I googled the address only to find that it was misspelled on the check. I was then told that there was an open investigation into this person and thank you very much but we dont need anything from you. I called the local police who referred me to the NYS attorney generals office who refered me to the post office who said there wasnt anything they could do for me either but that it was a good thing I was skeptical.
The moral of my story is ALWAYS READ THE DISCLAIMERS ON CRAIGSLIST!!!
