Post Title: Administrative Position Available (Kansas City)
Location: kansas city, MO
States affected: KS - kansas MO - missouri
Notes:
I was job searching. Craigslist has been a source for some ligitimate job postings in the past. I found the following posting on 6/28/2010:
"Administrative Position Available (Kansas City)
job-3q2kr-1814928653@craigslist.org
Full-time 40+ hours
Part (flex)-time 18+ hours
Salary Negotiable
We are looking for two very personable and great team players to join our administrative team. We need your excellent attention to detail, sharp computer skills, flexibility and strong multi-tasking skills, professionalism, calm under pressure and sense of humor!
Your duties would include but not limited to: answering phones, word processing, copying/scanning, data entry, timekeeping, basic bookkeeping, filing, and general office duties.
Please submit resumes via email only. Please note if you are applying for the full or part-time position."
Like with 99% of all the jobs I apply for, via Careerbuilder, Indeed.com, and occasionly, craigslist, I submitted my Resume via the listed email.
The next day I recieved the following reply:
"RE: Administrative Position
<hr.conrad@vannesto.com>
Dear ************,
Thank you for submitting your resume for our receptionist position.
We have been getting a lot of applications for this opening, but I am happy to let you know that I have reviewed your resume and it looks good.
Before I can set you up with the final interview, you need to complete a short personality screening, which can be found at our homepage. Your resume has been assigned with a personal application code which is: BC3216
Please go to our Applicant Area here , enter your code and complete the initial screening, so we can progress with the application process.
Thank you in advance and have a great day!
With kindest personal regards,
Conrad Bruegger
HR Manager
Vannesto llc"
The Applicant Area link showed the properties of: http://vannesto.com/applicants.php?id=y19618sft
The "Screening" was only 3 steps. One of them was for providing my current "Credit Score." If you did not have a current credit score, there was a convient link that takes one to one of those sign up for Credit Monitoring services to recieve your score, with the promise you can cancel the service anytime. I already had my current credit score, so I did not need to use their convient link.
This appears to be a way to generate income for the Credit Monitoring Services. If one does obtain their credit score through the link that Vannesto, LLC, you can be sure that it will take enough time to cancel that service, that you will still get billed for something.
The website provided is legitimate, the email address appears proffessional and reflects the company info. This really appears to be the real deal when looking at it, but it ends up being just an elaborate ploy to get people to sign up for a Credit Monitoring service. Beware!

Credit Score Scam
I, unfortunately, fell for the scam. The credit-score company that you run your credit report through asks for a $1 processing fee, which I agreed to, stupidly. Today I realized that there are two charges for $29.95, two charges for $1 (one of which I agreed to) and one charge for $2 on my statement. I called, cancelled my "membership" and demanded a refund. Mia, the all-too-familiar-with-this-issue customer service rep argued with me at first and said, "Well, you or someone in your household authorized the charges." (Cute, sweetheart, but 'living in my household' doesn't qualify one to authorize charges on my debit card. Regardless, no one, myself included, authorized a charge to my debit card.) So, I said, "Connect me with the proper representative because I am absolutely not paying for something I did not authorize." She said, "Okay, I'll credit you back. You'll see the refund in three to five business days." I searched the scam, and I am one of MANY to run into this issue. |
