Scammer!

Since: Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Email Address: sbennett54@sunnyemail.com

Post Title: $800 / 3br - Gorgeous, Super Clean 3Bdrm!! (Surfside)

Location: myrtle beach

States affected: SC - south carolina

Notes:
I responded to this ad: http://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/apa/1816992393.html and received this e-mail in return:

Hello,

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in the home. I have attached some pictures to this email and I am available to show the house this week or next if that fits your schedule as well. Just to give you a little more information about the home, the water and trash are paid by myself. The security deposit is $400 and can be paid in 2 installments if money is tight. (I know how that can be).

We do allow pets with a $75 security deposit, refundable at move out. The house includes a washer and dryer, and we have a contract for lawn care so the renter does not have to cut the grass.

I will be happy to show the house at an agreed upon time and date but I do require that all applicants and additional renters who will be living in the home complete a credit check to ensure their eligibility. I have to make sure potential renters are qualified before I show the property. This ensures neither of us will be wasting our time.

It is okay if you have bad credit (trust me). I just check to make sure that you don't have multiple evictions on your record. (We won't rent if you have 2 or more evictions on your record)

I also had to recently stop giving out the exact address of rental properties before I am able to show them because last time I did that the house was vandalized. (I will be glad to give you the address right after your reply). I assure you though that this is a very safe neighborhood. I actually lived in this home for 3 years (and it is very cozy!).

As soon as you can, please click and go to the secure website link below to complete the credit report check (takes about 30 seconds). Once you have complete it, I'll call you once I receive the information from the credit company (very quickly usually).

Credit Check Link: //www.nationalcreditreport-360.com

*** Please do not send me your credit report directly.

Once you fill out the report the credit company automatically forwards me your name, email address, phone number, and whether you have had any outstanding evictions in the past 5 years to determine your renter eligibility. This is the only information I am interested in. This is a soft credit report so it won't touch your FICO score (which is why we work with them).

This process turns some people off, so I completely understand if you decide not to complete it. In that case, good luck with your home search. I just want to be honest with you up front about our process, as it helps weed out ineligible renters and scammers and ensure that we place quality tenants in the home.

If eligible you will also be sent an email with my cell number and the home's address so we can set up a time to go see the house and discuss any other questions or concerns you may have.

Thanks for the interest!

Wasn't thrilled about the response, so I started googling Susan Bennett. Someone posted on Craigslist in Iowa about how Susan Bennett was sending out the same e-mails as the handle of Mark Savorn, who was pretty easy to spot on google as a scammer. But I didn't see much about Susan, so I decided to stick that name on here as well. Hope this helps someone out!

Scamming all over America

I received the exact same e-mail also, from Mark Savorn, and this for a house in State College, PA--got his post deleted but of course he keeps posting new ones. I checked some other locations on Craigslist and found the same ads in many different cities and states. Hoping enough people report it to get him permanently blocked--it is an obvious attempt at identity theft. I'm trying to tell everyone I can, thankfully I didn't bite, but someone might and really get burned.

Received the exact same email from her and from Mark Savorn on separate properties that are posted here in Sarasota, FL. Amazed to find this scam happening all over the country and Craigslist unable to stop it. We must spread the word!

Susan Bennett Now in Glens Falls, NY

I also got the exact same email after replying to a post on craigslist. Obviously, I was suspicious, so I googled Susan Bennett. Nothing came up, but I still wasn't convinced, so I googled "sunnyemail" (the address that the email came from) and found this site. I just hope other people who may have received this email were smart enough to do some digging before blindly clicking the link and giving out their info...

I'm also curious if the same pictures are sent out with each email. I received 5 pics:

1. The outside of the house (front)

2. The livingroom w/ fireplace

3. The kitchen (so pretty, you want it to be legit!)

4. The outside of the house (back)

5. Some random little space (bedroom maybe?)

Hope this helps!

I also received the same response from a Susan Bennett regarding a rental listed on CL for a home in Gainesville, Fl. I can't believe how these people operate. I knew right away something wasn't right, so I searched until I came upon this sight. I hope they are caught soon, whomever they are. I can only imagine the number of people whom are their victims.

I doubt her name is really Susan Bennett but I agree with maltimase- she is a sneaky bitch that needs to be stopped. Why prey on people who are most of the time desperate looking for a place to stay. If I ever become a deadly vipor assassin, Susan Bennett is on the list.

I, too, have just fell for this, Susan Bennett....Fredericksburg, VA

I did click on the link, however, did not sign in/up for anything....I wasn't sure exactly what I was to do at the point and sent another email....I haven't heard anything else!!!! The ad was for $775 / 3br - Move in Today (Fredericksburg)...I was overjoyed, this would have eased a financial burden.....I hope that she gets caught...it's not real cool that she includes a biblical verse at the end of her email, with her signature...especially since she is causing so much disappointment.

Okay, so I've been scammed...now what? Does anyone know:

1. If they (the scammers) are doing anything with the information (ident theft)?

2. What to do with the supposed "credit report" website...?

3. Where I can find one of those "Kick Me" signs...?

Dummy123, it could be that they put a key logger program on your PC. Run your spyware, malware, virus protection and defraggler programs and see if it picks up anything and cleans it off. Then check with your credit report companies and tell them what happened. As far as the "kick me" sign, hey...you beat yourself up enough. We all get snookered in one time or another. We're human. Forgive yourself and hang in there.

Thank you

Great advice...I've already run the latest Spybot (picked up the usual tracking cookies and stat counters) it didn't detect any type of key logger...I never even knew of a Flake List until this..I'm glad that you're here! I've yet to contact creditreport.com (message says open 6-6 pacific time), but hopefully all this will cost me is the $1.95 (already cancelled the card used for that!). Thanks again :)

New Ad for Susan Bennett appeared in Lakeland, FL Craigslist ad

I'm on the hunt for a new home to rent/buy and saw the exact same ad:

$825 / 3br - Serene home for rent w/ convenient location, roomy, 1-car Garage, big yard

It was posted in the Lakeland, FL listings on Craigslist. It sounded perfect for what I needed for my family so I sent a query regarding deposits, pet deposits, if the yard was fenced, etc. I received a reply within 24 hours and it is an exact duplicate of the ones posted above from Susan Bennett, right down to the pithy, "Romans 12:10," quote.

I have friends in property management and while they typically do run credit reports for potential renters, they do not send links in emails requesting for the report to be sent to them.

Initially I clicked the link and found the web address rollover to be odd. In the email the link provided was going to "nationalcreditreport589.com." When the link came up the URL was a long line of coding, redirects and so forth. I saw National Credit Report was just nationalcreditreport.com - no "589," extension. I re-read the email after seeing that there was no real place for me to have entered in information for a report to be sent to someone specific and was far more a generalization and ordering/subscription form.

I then thought perhaps the 589 was an extension code provided by national credit report to someone who had registered for a credit checking account. It just seemed a little too sketchy so I looked at the pictures sent to me in the email. Looking at the backyard, surrounding trees and landscape my personal tip off that it was questionable was that many of the trees in the yard are not indigenous to Florida. They didn't look deliberately planted for landscaping, but rather a standing hammock surrounding the house after the property had been cleared for construction. The yard was elevated on a hill side. This does not happen in Florida unless someone purposely constructed the elevation for drainage purposes. Hills are few and far between in Florida.

I decided to do a whois.com search on the 589 extension and found out the address had been purchased and registered with Domains By Proxy through GoDaddy.

Domain-Daily.com showed it as a new domain name on September 14, 2010, just four days before the ad was posted in Lakeland, FL. This one along with:

nationalcreditreport194.com

nationalcreditreport465.com

nationalcreditreport749.com

nationalcreditreport762.com

nationalcreditreport951.com

So if you see those they are most likely scams as well all owned by the same individual going by "Susan Bennett."

I got a little more curious how it worked so I opened the link once again, right clicked and reviewed the "page source," to see the CSS, HTML, coding or any scripting involved.

Sure enough in the meta tag area was a leading .js code tag. Scrolled down to the bottom of the page's coding and there was the java script coding that redirected the keyed-in page information as a form submission, installed analytics trackers and other spyware fun stuff. To top it off not only would you be signing up for auto-billing in 7 days with national credit report, but whoever "Susan Bennett," may be would then get your info as well.

Glad I caught this one before going any further. Truthfully I'm glad I caught it before I showed my son the pics of the house. He would have been heartbroken.

Thanks for posting the info!

Same Here

She just tried to scam me too. Of course she's too stupid to realize she's offering her homes way too cheap. Someone should contact these people https://secure.creditreport.com/

She obviously has an AFFILIATE account with them and is making money off this. I don't think it's https://secure.creditreport.com/ directly. But that's where the URL points to. They have an affiliate program

http://www.creditreport.com/AffiliateIndex01.aspx

and it's very obvious her affliate ID is being passed in the URL. So even though the creditreport.com company is slime as well I doubt they want to get shut down for having their affiliates scam people into filling out reports, so I will be reporting her there as well.

I fell for this

I am very ashamed of myself right now. actually, I'm devasted about it. I've been stressed out even before this, trying to find a home for my family and make ends meet. she sent me to a credit website (focuscreditreport.com) which asked me for a valid credit card for security purposes, it also clearly said it was free. when I submitted my information, it said thank you for your purchase, or something like that. I checked my banking account and it automatically withdrew $95 from my account. a very very bad thing since I've recently wrote out checks to pay bills and rent. now I'm probably going to overdraft and have identity theft issues...I want to say lesson learned to myself but..but wow its a harsh reality. I will never again try to get things done past 12am...

does anyone know if there is anything I can do to get my money back??

as far as identity theft..can i contact creditreport.com?or the beaurous directly??

help Im soo confused...

It has signs of a scam

I've seen so many scams now, it's easy to recognize. Lol! Anyone showing any apartment does not include SO MUCH info in one e-mail. Also, why would she not want to give you the address? What did she post in Craigslist? Credit reports are not necessary for the rental of apartments. For me, it's getting pretty easy to spot scams, thank God!

Susan Bennett the thief

I'm very sorry all of you folks are experiencing such blatant trickery from an obvious swindler. Unfortunately, it sounds like something my sister, Susan Bennett, would do. Sidebar: she stole my inheritance when my mother passed. All of it!!! When I Googled her name and this website came up and I started reading your stories I knew!!! Her give away....the Bible pssages. THAT IS MY SISTER. Always quoting scriptures out of one side of her mouth. She came to visit myself and my husband here in Indiana and it was the weirdest week of our lives. She was secretive and evasive. Her and her husband were. She NEVER hd a phone number for more than a week. Her address would change monthly. Finally after a year of the "witness protection program" behavior I told her to F off and stay away from me and my family. The last address I have of her was NC 2years ago and of course she doesn't live there anymore nor are any of her phone numbers valid. Now this scam may not be my sister, Susan Bennett, but years ago she owned some property that she rented out. She may have had property recently, tried to rent it via emails, hit on the scam by charging $95 for credit search from multitudes and said hmmmmm this is a money maker and it went from there.I'm hoping that it's not her but it sounds like it and if it is she needs to be locked up ASAP. Too many families are struggling as it is without thieves like Susan Bennett walking around.

Nancy, it's too bad that there are family members that do this sort of thing to their loved ones. Very sad indeed! I have always said that just because someone is "family", it does not mean that you have to love, enable and support them if they are toxic to your own self and well-being.

I am surprised she is still using her real name.
