Post Title: Community Office Assistant
Location: quad cities, IA/IL
States affected: IA - iowa IL - illinois
Notes:
This is a HUGE SCALE scam, essentially you reply to ONLY ONE craigslist posting "Community Office Assistant" and you GET TONS AND TONS OF people wanting you to go to other websites to do anything from post your resume on a "helpful job finding site" to getting your "free credit report" and then you accidentally sign up for some service...etc. Also I noticed from a fellow flakelist reporter it is happening also in Kansas (and in Illinois where I am), so it is probably country-wide~! Look out!
Here is the latest scam email as a result of me replying to that post:
Dear Applicant,
I appreciate you e-mailing us. In case the posting was not clear, the responsibilities of this position are as follows: you will be working alongside our current team of manegerial HR staff, also answering the phone and taking messages whenever applicable, you will be scheduling the company meetings, and running errands for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits (you will be provided with a company car). While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases.
You seem definitely qualified for our job opening and I would like to take the next step with you. However, before I am able to schedule a formal meeting, my company will require that you acquire a recent (past 14-21 business days) credit report. We started this because our company had some bad incidents with prior employees taking advantage of having access to a company credit card.
Both myself and the company will prefer it that you use http://snipurl.com/10qzkg to acquire your check as they are offering the check at zero cost to you (unlike other places). We also discovered that their scores always report back the most factual and accurate information.
Once you submit all of the required information, they will show your personal report. Then, you need to email me the reported credit score, a phone number that you can be easily reached, and your availability schedule to arrange an interview.
I ask you to not email me the entire report, as it will have private content. If you have a lower than expected credit score, it will never prevent you from a position with us. I had a fairly low score whenever I started.
If you do not want to complete a recent credit check, unfortunately the company will require that I contact the second choice.
Personally, I am hoping to fill this position with a new friendly face as soon as possible and am looking forward to your quick response.
Have a fantastic Sunday,
Kind Regards,
Maria Stover - HR

I'm in Columbus, Ohio. I replied to this CraigsList ad one time and have been getting numerous responses from different email addresses all with Administrative Support (columbus , DOWNTOWN) in the subject line. For example: Susan Smith, Hiring Manager, Mystery Shoppers Corp.; Kelly Powell, Human Resources Division, Wordon, Phone: 1 (650) 762-5607, Fax: 1 (866) 275-6850, Email: KellyPowell@WordonCorp.com, Website: WordonCorp.com who stated" Please complete the IQ Quiz here: //WordonCorp.com/IQ-Quiz". I was actuall insulted by that one! Thank you "quad cities" for warning! Here is email from maria.stover: Administrative Support (columbus , DOWNTOWN, CITY)

Monterey CA
This scam is happening in Monterey, CA as well. I am not 100% sure which ad on craigslist the posting was from, but I have it narrowed down to a possibility of four, as those were the ones I applied to with the same title of the re response. All of the ads honestly seemed legitimate, modest jobs, and I've been trying to do my research beforehand to avoid scams like this. I am hoping that this does not do any harm to me, but I can't be sure, as I stupidly did click on the link and respond with an email. Please, someone, STOP these from happening to honest Americans just looking for a job!! |

Maria Stover - BEWARE!
I just received this email response this afternoon, in northern VA. Shame on whoever creates these scams in an effort to rip off people who are already obviously looking for a job and probably don't have much money to begin with.

PLG SCAM!
I received this email from a "Karen Parks" after asking to find out more info on a job posting they had on craiglist. #1, my name is NOT "west". Also when you go to the site they list you are asked to get a credit report. The company site has very little info on it and does state that you will be paid a starting wage of $17/hr. I googled "PLG" and found this site. Apparently I am not the only one having issues with scammers on craigslist! This is happening in Oregon. Hello West, My name is Karen Parks head of the human resource department for PLG Corp and just wanted to update you on the job position you applied for through craigslist yesterday. I have looked over your resume and decided to have you shortlisted for the office admin position. I would like to schedule you for an interview sometime next week (tuesday if possible) as well as get you to complete the pre-interview requirements that all shortlisted candidates must complete before I can pencil in an interview date. The position will require you to work in a high financial environment so it's our corporate policy that we do a financial verification check on all employees to verify applicant registration info. Its corporate policy that we have applicants sent through our link so we are compliant with the U.S employment standards act. -corp.com/applicant-check. It will re-direct you to the report site. Fill out the form and indicate that you want the free report and say no to the platinum monitoring option if they ask you. PLEASE DO NOT email us your report. Instead print it out and bring a copy to the interview as we will need to have it on file. Since this is just a pre-screen formality your actual score will not affect your chances of being hired. I ask that you please state: -When would be best time from the hours of 8am to 5pm to hold the interview -Contact number for 2 references -The membership number of the report -Your telephone number to confirm your interview date and time Please double check to make sure you have included all of the above requirements in your response to us Additionally, I will give you a tour of our offices, discuss pay structure and go over job duties. If you are no longer looking for employment please respond with your name and 'not interested' in the subject field so I can better shuffle through all the mail I get and take you off the applicant list. Once again, thank you for your interest in the position. I look forward to hearing back from you. For more information pertaining to the position visit our website .plg-corp.com. Respectfully yours, Karen O. Parks .plg-corp.com Disclaimer: This e-mail may contain confidential information. If you are not the intended recipient (or have received this e-mail in error) please notify the sender immediately and destroy this e-mail. Any unauthorized copying, disclosure or distribution of the material in this e-mail is strictly forbidden. MY MESSAGE: I would like some more info on the clerical job you are offering. Thank You Mary |
