Scammer!

Since: Saturday, September 4, 2010

Email Address: rentals@newsomepropertiesllc.com

Location: orange county

States affected: CA - california

Notes:
This woman or man is on craigslist listing homes for rent that are to good to be true. Hints why it is a scam. They make it sound like they are interested in you renting their property and want you to fill out a fake credit-report with their "credit report company" Which they send you a link in the email. IF you do this a few days later you will receive an email explaining that the property is rented and that they will keep you post on others in the area. I clicked the link like an idiot & not have to have all my accounts frozen. Please protect yourself from this pathetic person. Here is the exact email I received.

Hello,

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner! Things have been so hectic for me these last couple of days!

The good news is that the rental is still available! We had an offer from the first person we showed it to, but now it appears that they are changing their mind, so we need to start showing it again as soon as possible. You were the second one to email me about it.

It is the whole place that is for rent, and it's in pristine condition. We know a lot of prospective renters want to do a quick look of the property, but my husband doesn't want me to mass send out the address as a measure of safety. Last time we did that without verifying people, the empty property was broken into and vandalized. We don't want that to happen again! I CAN tell you that it's a very special property, that would normally rent for quite a bit more than other comparable properties in the neighborhood.

All utilities are connected and will be transferred into your name. You will be responsible for cable, internet, and phone, if you decide to have these services. Just to confirm, we DO allow pets at this property. The rental term is 12-month lease, but can be switched into a 6-month lease if preferred. We just ask that you give us fair notice if you are moving out.

If you would like to set up an appointment, go to the link below and request the free copy of your rental / credit report. We use this company for all the properties we manage. Just fill out the form and indicate that you want the free credit report. The actual scores on the report aren't important to us, it's more of a formality to have it on file, to make sure you are who you say you are.

Get your report here: //leasing-reports.com/property09045/

Remember, we only need to see the page about the rental history. That will be all you will need to bring with you to the showing.

As far as getting together to see the property goes, I am available to show it any time from 10:00 am on, for the next couple of days. Let me know when you've printed out your credit report, and we will set up a time to do your walk-through.

Thank you once again for your interest!

Sharon Newsome

And then the next day....

Hi there,

I'm so sorry for this...but the couple that was looking at the place originally, actually came back and put their deposit down. I mentioned that things have been hectic around here... I guess they had been calling me frantically, and my phone was in a spot in our house that, for whatever reason, gets really bad reception...so I didn't even notice they were trying to call back. Anyways, they just got back in touch with my husband and signed the lease, and put down the deposit and everything. I'm really sorry for all this confusion.

We own multiple properties in the area so we will definitely keep you on the top of the list if anything else comes available soon.

Thanks,

Sharon

Hi Sharon,
Thank you so much for getting back to me. Can you please let me know which property is yours? we have been looking and email quite a few. If it is the 1bed room apartments with outside deck we are VERY interested. Hope to hear from you soon. Perhaps I can take a look later today or tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your past vandalization, that is HORRIBLE!

Thanks Sharon.

TOTAL SCAM! THANK GOD FOR THIS WEBSITE! I hope you rot in hell "Sharon Newsome"

How to Identify a Scammer on Craigslist

Since being scammed or almost I have taken the time to look at clues on craigslist.

Most scammers are posting pics that are professional but some are not. First highlight the ad and if you see another line pop in with gibberish you can bet it is a scam. Often you can see a background line of words. Go to other cities and look at postings from the past few days. You will see the same postings. Most postings are very generic saying that they are close to the mall, great food & bus lines. No phone number listed and few details. There is a Krystal Coulter out there posting without pics and changes everything. Her response is the same she wants you to rent and fill out a credit form.

YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO FILL OUT A FORM JUST TO GET INFO. Not until you meet someone. Then meet them in a public place. If the pics look too good to be true..they are. The best thing to do...is go to other cities on craigslist and compare pics or postings. Do not use your personal email. Create one for junk mail so to speak. Hope this helps. Remember do not fill out anything and ask questions. If they don't answer your questions they are sure to be scammers.

In addition

They don't list a specific address or location just a city. They don't seem to list highways or cross streets or anything specific. If a phone number is listed do a Google search on it to see if it is really in that location and who owns the number. Anyone saying they are out of the country..well don't even deal with them.

Please flag anything you see. I have reported to craigslist but they don't do anything.

"Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to email my daughter about the room, being a realtor she asked that I help her with the screening

I thought I had the place rented last week to a friends niece, but communication has dropped off. You are the first person to email about it since I put it back on the market . It would only be fair that I gave you the first shot at it.

To tell you a little bit about your potential roomate, "I am a 28 year old professional female. Non-Smoker, occasional drinker and WILL not bring any drama into the house. I'm not going to follow you around with white gloves but would think you'd want to help keep the place clean. I don't have a pet but am not against them." is her 2 sentence description she asked me to pass along

I would prefer a year lease, but would also be open to shorter terms. I'm sure that you will want to see the property before making a final decision. I would simply give you the address and let you swing by, but for safety reasons I would rather meet somewhere first and talk / answer any questions, then let you follow me to the property. Rest assured the home has been up kept properly and had a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint . All utilities are taken care of in the rent.

If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the property, go to the link below and print off the free copy of your report. Your score isn't important, I'm just interested in seeing that there are no evictions / landlord related judgments.

Here is the link: //leasing-reports.com/property01008/

I am very open as far as appointments go to show the property. Any morning after 10am is fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed and be sure to leave me a contact number to reach you at and any desired time. I will call you to confirm a time and choose a place to meet.

Thanks for looking,

Sharon and Erin"

Thanks to a smart friend, I checked out Sharon Newsome too!!!

Thanks so much for this info! Unfortunately, I clicked the link and got my report. I never gave anything to Sharon...as a matter of fact, she's "waiting" to hear from me now. I now know better than ever, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is! I just sent an email off to my local NBC news station. IDK if anything will come of it, but I feel better knowing that I have good friends watching my back!!

I just got the same type of email from her and her "daughter" I did email her back but im so glad i had this gut instinct to google her so called company name. So is her way of scamming to have you utilize the site or actually give her the report, because the site it takes you to, nationalcreditreport.com. I have called that company which is an actual credit report site. I was requested to forward the link in which Ms. Newsome is providing so they can continue their investigation and remove their company from the link. If you would like to contact them the number is 1.888.887.4287 and email is CustomerService@NationalCreditReport.com

To do know

1. Cancel your credit card

2. Report a scam with your CC company

3. Make sure you have cc protection on your CCrds

4. File a police report

5. Report them to Craigslist

6. Watch your credit for years

7. Clean out your computer best yet have a professional clean it ou.

8. Do not respond to spams

You ask what are they looking for...they want your info...they want to be paid for your info and they will haunt you for hte rest of your life if you do not stand up and protect yourself. Good luck and go back to Craigslist and FLAG, FLAG AND FLAG

Watch out! Some of those credit card "links" put keyloggers on your pc and that's how they steal even more info from you. Run a malware, virus, and any other scan you have plus do a de-frag and re boot. This should help.

After I had my computer hacked from these scammers I went to a computer specialist and they cleaned out my entire computer. It better to have a professional do it as they know what they are looking for. If you cant afford it run everything you can to clean out your computer. However dont start downloading because flakelist is right there are many things hiding in downloads.

I would recommend that you not do any online bankinng or payments that require all of you info. Also keep in mind that when you fille dout the credit report no one knows where that info really went to. You need to watch your creidt history. I have limits on my cards which means any purchase over a certain amount has to be approved by me via a phone call to my cell. Same with my bank. In any given day I cant take our more than the specific amount. Remember they are scammers and are after your info to make money. They get paid each time someone fills out the report. Its all about money for them. Then ita about selling your info. Now go and flag and help others.
