Doris, how far did you fall for this scam? Did you send money or just your personal information?

Doris

personal information, I could kick myself

Well, I don't blame you one bit for worrying. But thank goodness you did not send this joker any money. Keep an eye on your credit and make sure your identity does not get stolen. You can also put a flag on your credit via the reporting companies so they can be on alert of any suspicious activity.

What he is doing is baiting you into trying to get you to believe he has a "job" for you; I am sure within the next email or so he sends you he will start discussing money and you buying stuff and mailing it off to others, or forwarding money, or something similar.

If you are in the mood to screw with his head, the scambaiting site http://www.419eater.com/ has some great tips!! ☺

help me too!

Flake Mistress,

I have fallen for a scam similar, one I think you've already commented on, and it has to do with money orders and things like that, but as of yet I have not been asked to send money or anything like that. I don't know if he would be able to steal my identity or something of that nature, but you seem to be giving good advice concerning these things. He has my physical information, but nothing more than that, and has not asked for money, or a portion back of money he is supposedly going to send me. What do I do?

FlakeMistress

Roxy, do the same thing I said to Doris. Keep an eye on your credit and make sure your identity does not get stolen. You can also put a flag on your credit via the reporting companies so they can be on alert of any suspicious activity. If you have sent him any banking information, let your bank know what happened so they (and you) can keep a close eye on your financial information.

Do NOT send or cash ANY money orders, checks, anything from that scammer. Take it to the police department. ☺

Thank you!

He doesn't have any banking information, although he sent me an e mail saying a money order is on its way and he wants me to deposit it, and wait for an e mail list of supplies I am to purchase and take to an orphanage, so DO NOT deposit, right, and take it to the police?

FlakeMistress

Right. Do NOT deposit that money order! This is a scam 100%. It's a similar version of the work at home" scam, that is listed on the United States Postal Inspection website. Here's a link:

http://www.deliveringtrust.com/learn/learnMore.php?videoToPlay=five

Take note of this paragraph: "Know the consequences.

Taking part in a work-at-home scam may make you an inadvertent accessory to a crime. If you see a job posting mentioning any of the above activities, either ignore the job or check with the Better Business Bureau before accepting an offer."

Here are some tips to avoid most of these scams and scammers:

Scammer wants you to cash-mail-print a check or money order.

Scammer wants you to use Western Union or Moneygram in any way, shape or form.

Scammer wants you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone, including orphanages.

Scammer wants you to sign up for a credit reporting site, IQ site, or identity verification site.

Roxy, if you'd like, you can scan the money order and email the scan to us and we'll post it on the site here so people can see what a fake money order looks like and what to avoid. ☺

You could also "play" around with the scammers a bit. http://www.419eater.com/ is a great site for explaining how to bait the scammers that are trying to scam you. You are more than welcome to post any of your emails here on Flakelist that have anything to do with dealing with these scammers. ☺

Scammm!!

Hello, I'm just writing because I've just recently found out on the Scam i was just pulled into. I have recieved 2 checks and was told to cash and deposit into my account and Withdraw a certain amount and Western Union Send to another person. But thank god the western union have locked the wiring and refunding back the amount i was sending. So please becareful!! I have only given my information D.O.B, address, and phone number... The checks have not been available into my account yet, so i doubt it would even post into my account. I have talked with my bank about this and i have to wait overnight for my posting on my account to post and see what happends from there. This has been a scary experience, thank god i google this person and found this website to help me. THANK YOU!!

Red, you are VERY lucky that Western Union is refunding back the money. This is a first we have ever heard of, here at Flakelist. Usually, once the money is wired, it's gone for good.

The checks may indeed "post" to your account, but remember, that does not mean that the funds have cleared yet on the other side. That's because there is NO other side; it's a bogus check, a bogus routing number, a bogus everything. Once your bank realizes this, they charge back the amount to your account and their service fees as well. So, even if your account shows that money as available, it isn't.

Keep in touch with your bank and keep them up to date. Hopefully they will be understanding and you wont lose any money over this.

Yes, I'm VERY VERY lucky that the western union somehow realized it and stopped it immediately. I have received calls and emails on why the money was being transferred back to me. And for some reason where i sent the money to, the reciver was not able to pick it up, so he asked i change the address to a different person. Then later asked to send the rest of the money to another organization, but i googled the organization online, got their number and asked for who he requested to send it too, and OF COURSE there is no one by that name there.

And the bank still has not posted the amount, still has a hold on it. Now i'm just waiting on the return from the western union and return it back to the bank. PLease Please becareful!!
