I responded to a normal-sounding ad for free moving boxes. Here is the scammer's response:

I replied by email to a perfectly normal-looking CL ad for someone who said she had moving boxes to give away.

Im sorry that I didn't reply before, I actually promised this to someone else but she hasn't replied. Are you still interested?

I have to go to a meeting at my daughters school tomorrow but then I will be home for the next few days. Please let me know when youre around.

I told her I was still interested and gave some times that I could come by, and then I got this gem:


Hey,

Im very very sorry. the first person replied, and it seems her first email ended up in the junk folder and I didnt see it. I feel so bad :(

You know, I wasn't actually gonna mention this, but two weeks ago I received a check in the mail for $1500 from the state gov. It seems if you dont make over $85k per year you can be eligible for it too as part of a grant program. Not sure about you, but waitresses dont make very much and the extra money was really useful this month.

I received grant #MT5826, the choice that said "Income Assistance" as its title. It was very easy, you just have to go to this website: [scam link removed]

The process only takes 5-6 minutes and you can do it all on the computer. One thing though, please dont tell lots of people about this. I suspect they haven't got too much money for this and I want to be sure that my friends will be able to get the grant as well. Thanks a lot, and I'm sorry again about the whole mess up.
